When Will We Get A Christmas Prince 4 On Netflix?
There is no shortage of Christmas movies for Netflix subscribers to stream as we move deeper into the holiday season. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly adventure, like “The Christmas Chronicles,” a musical like “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey,” or you’re interested in something more grown-up, like the recently released romantic comedy “Love Hard,” there are plenty of titles to pick from these days on the streaming giant.
Speaking of the rom-com genre, one of more notable Netflix holiday offerings is the charming 2017 film “A Christmas Prince.” For those who are new to the franchise, the first film revolves around an American journalist named Amber (played by “iZombie” alum Rose McIver). Amber goes to the fictional country of Aldovia and becomes entwined in the lives of the country’s royal family while on assignment. During her visit, she gradually falls in love with Prince Richard (Ben Lamb), a very eligible bachelor and heir to the Aldovian throne.
The film’s success led to two sequels, “A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding” and “A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby.” The second film was announced in May 2018 (via The Hollywood Reporter), and the third installment was announced even in March 2019 (via Twitter), teasing the eager and positive reception from fans clamoring for more. Both sequels continue to track the developments in Amber and Richard’s relationship, including the milestone events in their lives.
Fans may be curious to know if and when Netflix would release a fourth entry in the franchise. Here’s what we know about the potential release of “A Christmas Prince 4” on Netflix.
Netflix may be done with King Richard and Queen Amber
At the time of writing, there don’t appear to be any plans for Netflix to make “A Christmas Prince 4.” The three movies included in the “A Christmas Prince” collection were released in quick succession. “A Christmas Prince” was released in November 2017, “A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding” was released in November 2018, and “A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby” was released in December 2019. However, “A Christmas Prince 4” is not on the docket for 2021, marking two years since the release of the third film and further dimming the possibility of it coming to fruition.
A fourth entry in the “Christmas Prince” story would be unusual, if only because Netflix rarely expands a franchise beyond a trilogy format, especially when it comes to romantic comedy franchises. The 2018 film “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” ended up with two sequels, released in 2020 and 2021. This was also the case for fellow 2018 releases “The Kissing Booth” and “The Princess Switch.” To date, Netflix has not announced a fourth entry in either of those franchises, and it’s unlikely that they’ll break that streak with “A Christmas Prince.”
However, franchise stars Rose McIver and Ben Lamb seem to be game to return to this Netflix rom-com world. McIver pitched a story idea in an interview with The Wrap in 2019, suggesting the royal duo could go for couple’s counseling in the next installment but also sympathizing with the decisions their characters make.
All three films in the “A Christmas Prince” collection are currently available to stream on Netflix.
