Two runners break the 5km world record in the Barcelona Nose Race

The 23rd edition of the Cursa dels Nassos de Barcelona , It was held in the Catalan capital this Friday, December 31, starting at 5:12 p.m., it ended with the new world record of the 5km in the female and male categories.

In the women's category, with a time of 14:18, the champion Ejgayehu Haylu has broken the record. and in the men's with a time of 12:50 it was beaten by the athlete Berihu Aregawi.

The situation of the covid-19 pandemic has forced the organization to cut the initial participation, around 8,000 runners, to the referred figure. The test was presented this morning in the Lluis Companys room of the Barcelona city council in a ceremony chaired by the city's sports councilor, David Escudé , together with José Luis Blanco, technical director of the race and representatives of the sponsors.

All elite participants, around 50 in 5 km, have passed an antigen test a few hours before participating. In the popular 10 km race, some 6,400 runners have competed, divided into three boxes of 2,200, with rows of 9 runners separated by 1.5 meters and with starts at 5:15 p.m., 5:18 p.m. and 5:23 p.m. Before, at 5:12 p.m., the athletes in the wheelchair category had started.
