These are the cheapest hours this Friday

New rise in the price of electricity. This Friday the average cost will be 0.3172 euros, four cents more than the previous day in a week that continues to accumulate increases. However, the cheapest hours will be from early morning to 8 in the morning.

Peak and valley hours

  • The cheapest: from 4 to 5 at 0.2253 € / kWh
  • The most expensive: from 6 to 7 p.m. at € 0.42283 / kWh

The average price of electricity in the wholesale market this Friday will be € 215.86 / MWh, which is the sixth consecutive day of increases and will once again exceed the level of 210 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), for the second time this year.

Specifically, the wholesale price will register for this Friday just a 1.35% growth compared to the previous day and an increase of 53.2% compared to Friday of last week, according to data published by the Iberian Market Operator of Energy (OMIE) collected by Europa Press.

By time slots, the maximum price of electricity for January 7 will be between 6 and 7 p.m., with € 260 / MWh, while the minimum, € 162.80 / MWh, will be registered between 4 a.m. and 7 p.m. 5 o'clock.

The 215.86 € / MWh that will mark on average this Friday the wholesale electricity market thus represents the highest price level since last December 25.

The reasons for the upload

The rise in price in recent months in the electricity market is mainly explained by the high prices of gas in the markets and of carbon dioxide emission rights (CO2), at all-time highs this year.

Thus, compared to the same day just a year ago, the rise experienced this Thursday will be 139.5%, since on January 6, 2021 the price of electricity stood at € 88.93 / MWh .
