The Scary Of Sixty-First Release Date, Cast And Plot – What We Know So Far
Some would say the creepiest horror comes straight out of real life. You can convince yourself there’s no such thing as demons and monsters under the bed, but there are undoubtedly evil things on this planet you can’t escape. No matter how much you want to convince yourself that everyone out there is good deep down, the truth of the matter is that some people are merely agents of chaos. They want to wreak as much destruction as possible, and the truly frightening aspect of the whole thing is that they believe they’re in the right to do so.
“The Scary of Sixty-First” takes this idea to its most socially relevant conclusion. It brings together QAnon conspiracies with the real-life evil of Jeffrey Epstein in one of the timeliest movies to come out in recent memory. The movie made waves when it first debuted at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival, and soon, you’ll be able to see it on a screen near you.
What's the release date for The Scary of Sixty-First?
In May 2021, following its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, Shudder acquired the rights to distribute the film. That means it should come out on that platform in the near future, but as of this writing, a release date has not come out yet.
However, the hype is through the roof, especially since Utopia’s head of content, Danielle DiGiacomo, had this to say about the horror flick: “Dasha Nekrasova’s first feature film is a remarkably visionary work that integrates a clear love of classic 70’s-style paranoia thrillers, while fearlessly going to a place we’ve never seen before. Utopia couldn’t be more excited to continue our mission of supporting bold filmmaking by releasing it into the world” (via Deadline). Suffice to say, a release date can’t come out soon enough.
Who's in the cast for The Scary of Sixty-First?
There aren’t any huge, household names in the cast for “The Scary of Sixty-First,” but there are some excellent reasons why you’ll want to get familiar with this astonishingly talented cast. Playing the film’s two leads are Madeline Quinn, who also co-wrote the screenplay, and Betsey Brown (via IMDb). Quinn isn’t the only one pulling double duty. Director Dasha Nekrasova also spent some time in front of the camera in a role referred to as simply “The Girl.”

What's the plot of The Scary of Sixty-First?
The trailer for “The Scary of Sixty-First” should give you a good idea of what you’re in for when you finally sit down to watch the movie. It looks like one part “Eyes Wide Shut,” one part “Rosemary’s Baby,” and one part modern paranoia. According to the film’s listing on the Berlin Film Festival website, the plot involves two roommates whose lives become upended when they stumble upon a terrible secret in their new apartment complex. They discover it once belonged to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, and one of the women soon becomes possessed by the spirit of one of his victims.
It’s an audacious directorial debut from Dasha Nekrasova, and it’s already earning high praise on Rotten Tomatoes. This movie likely won’t be for everyone, but if you’re interested in bold filmmaking that isn’t afraid of pushing boundaries, you need to have it on your watchlist.
