The Out-Laws Release Date, Cast, And Plot – What We Know So Far
Netflix may have had humble beginnings as a mail-order DVD rental service, but it’s become so much more. It’s not even just a streaming service, but one of the most exciting production houses in Hollywood. In particular, the company has continued to release some great romantic comedies, including the likes of “The Incredible Jessica James,” “Love Wedding Repeat,” “When We First Met,” “Isn’t It Romantic,” and of course, the famous “Kissing Booth” and “To All the Boys I Loved Before” trilogies.
Now, the streaming giant has another sure-to-be-excellent feature in the works, produced by and starring Adam Devine, best known for his starring roles in “Workaholics” and “Pitch Perfect.” Devine is leading the upcoming romantic comedy titled “The Out-Laws,” and we’re confident it will be another great addition to Netflix’s roster of original content. We’re definitely looking forward to the film premiering on the streaming giant — but what do we know about “The Out-Laws” so far?
When is The Out-Laws hitting Netflix?
There is no word on when “The Out-Laws” will be arriving on Netflix. However, we don’t think we’ll have to wait too long. The streaming giant has made a massive commitment to its original programming. In their 2021 fiscal year alone, Netflix allocated $17 billion (yes, with a “B”) to create their own content (via Fortune). With that much money, we imagine “The Out-Laws” will make its way into production relatively soon. The feature film is also backed by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions, which has been churning out popular comedies since its establishment in 1999 — meaning “The Out-Laws” has another impressive studio on its side, too.
However, with casting announcements just coming out in late October 2021, it also likely means the film is still a while away from principal photography. That said, at the rate Netflix releases original films, we bet we’ll be seeing this one by the end of 2022.
Who is starring in The Out-Laws?
“The Out-Laws” has an incredibly impressive cast, as announced by Deadline. As mentioned, the story is led by Adam Devine, who is also executive producing the project. Devine’s “Workaholics” co-star Blake Anderson is also starring in the film, along with a slate of Hollywood A-listers. Ellen Barkin, known for the TNT series “Animal Kingdom,” and Nina Dobrev, best known for her work on the teen drama “The Vampire Diaries,” have joined the project.
Comedians Lil Rel Howrey (“Free Guy”) and the iconic Richard Kind are also on board, along with “Never Have I Ever” star Poorna Jagannathan and “Marriage Story” actor Julie Hagerty. Hollywood legends Michael Rooker and Pierce Brosnan are also slated to appear in “The Out-Laws,” rounding out an awe-inspiring cast.
Specific roles are still unknown, apart from Devine’s, who is playing the lead protagonist. With such an eclectic and talented group of actors, though, it’s bound to be a hit.
What is the plot of The Out-Laws?
“The Out-Laws” has a familiar romantic comedy premise — the chaos of planning a wedding. However, this time, there’s some additional stress involved for the happy couple.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Adam Devine plays Owen Browning, a buttoned-up bank manager preparing to marry the love of his life. However, his pre-wedding bliss hits a snag when the infamous Ghost Bandits hold up his bank. It gets even worse for Owen, though, as he believes his future in-laws are really the outlaws who terrorized his bank.
A wedding is always rife with opportunities for comedy, but this bank-heist twist leads us to believe that “The Out-Laws” will be wildly entertaining. The impressive cast, too, promises an exciting and engaging film. While we’ll have to wait for more plot details to emerge, we sorely hope that “The Out-Laws” ends with a happy wedding — and hopefully not too many shenanigans along the way. One thing’s for sure, though — “The Out-Laws” is on our list of upcoming can’t-miss Netflix films.
