The Other Fast & Furious Actor You Forgot Feuded With Dwayne Johnson

The “Fast & Furious” franchise has, over the course of the past two decades, become one of the biggest ones in Hollywood. The series, which focuses on a group of car thieves and racers who find themselves up against criminal masterminds of various stripes, has seen its cast grow over the years. Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez, who were in the 2001 film “The Fast and The Furious,” the first entry in the series, have continued to appear in the sequels. They have been joined by a large cast that includes Kurt Russell, Helen Mirren, Sung Kang, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Tyrese Gibson, Jason Statham, and Dwayne Johnson.

However, the series’ ensemble cast has led to its own set of issues behind the camera. Most notably, the story of the feud between Diesel and Johnson has dominated headlines, to the point that jokes at Vin Diesel’s expense even popped up in Johnson’s new movie “Red Notice.” However, Diesel is not the only “Fast & Furious” cast member with whom Johnson has feuded publicly. Here’s the other “Fast & Furious” actor you might not have realized had previously beefed with Johnson.

Johnson also feuded with Tyrese Gibson

On the Comedy Central show “Stir Crazy with Josh Horowitz” (via YouTube), Tyrese Gibson spoke about his own feud with Dwayne Johnson, declaring that any issues between the two of them had been talked out.

“Me and The Rock peaced up, by the way,” Tyrese said, going on a tangent from a conversation about potential spinoffs for his “Fast & Furious” character Roman Pearce. “We talked for four hours about three weeks ago. It was great.”

The issues between the two stars began in 2017, when plans for a “Fast & Furious” spin-off starring Johnson’s character Luke Hobbs first began churning in the rumor mill. Tyrese took to social media at the time, asking Johnson not to move forward with the spinoff, and to not delay the release of what eventually came to be known as “F9: The Fast Saga.” Saying that Johnson was not returning his messages, Tyrese went on social media twice more in the ensuing months, first blaming Johnson for the delay of the ninth film’s release and saying that Johnson had made the franchise about himself.

This continued when the spinoff was formally announced, focused on Hobbs as well as Jason Statham’s character Deckard Shaw. As a result, Tyrese to social media once again, revealing that his character had been offered a spinoff previously, alongside Ludacris’ character Tej, but Tyrese had turned it down (via EW).

“F9” is currently available to rent on AppleTV and Amazon.
