Paco Gento, legend of Real Madrid and Spanish football, dies

Francisco Gento, former player of Real Madrid and Spanish international, passed away this Tuesday at the age of 88, as reported by the club from Madrid. “Real Madrid, its president and its Board of Directors deeply regret the death of Francisco Gento, honorary president of Real Madrid and one of the greatest legends of our club and of world football,” Real Madrid reported in the statement.

Born in the Cantabrian town of Garnish, Paco Gento, a pure left winger, played 600 games for the Madrid club, scoring 182 goals, and was capped 43 times.

Gento played for the white team 18 seasons, from 1953 to 1971, during which he won six European Cups -the player who has achieved the most-, twelve League, two Cups of Spain and one Intercontinental, among other trophies.
