Only Murders In The Building Season 2 Release Date, Cast And Plot – What We Know So Far
It should come as no surprise that a television series featuring the immense talents of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez is currently one of Hulu’s most popular shows. “Only Murders in the Building” stars the trio as Charles-Haden Savage, Oliver Putnam, and Mabel Mora, respectively, and follows the group as they work together to solve a murder in their shared apartment building — while also trying to start a successful true-crime podcast.
By the end of the first season of “Only Murders in the Building,” the three new friends uncover the murderer of Tim Kono (Julian Cihi), only to find themselves in the face of an all-new danger. Despite the unanswered questions left at the season finale, there is plenty to look forward to in Season 2, which has thankfully already been confirmed to the delight of the show’s fans.
So, what exactly can we expect to see in “Only Murders in the Building” Season 2? Here’s what we know so far.
When will Only Murders in the Building Season 2 premiere?
There currently isn’t an exact premiere date scheduled for Season 2 of “Only Murders in the Building,” but according to a recent interview with Elle, the show’s co-creator John Hoffman explained that filming is due to begin sooner than you’d think. “We do have a good solid track for season 2,” he explained. “We actually start shooting in a month. It’s going to be very exciting as the actors start arriving and everything else. We have been working with the writers for a few months now. […] That’s what we’ve been doing, and now we’re speeding our way through the scripts, and we’re about halfway through.”
Since the show was first announced back in January 2020 and Season 1 premiered this past August, it’s safe to assume that Season 2 could be out as early as summer 2023. If production continues on its speedy course, we may get to see it even earlier than that — but for now, we’ll have to wait for an official announcement.
Who is in Only Murders in the Building Season 2?
The three protagonists from the first season of “Only Murders in the Building” are expected to return for Season 2. We last saw our novice detectives in a sticky situation: Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are taken away in handcuffs after seemingly being blamed for the newest murder victim in the building, Bunny (Jayne Houdyshell).
As far as other characters in Season 2, John Hoffman provided Elle with some insight into who we can expect to see. “There will also be some revisiting of characters,” he revealed. “We may be seeing a little bit more of Cinda Canning [Tina Fey] and, even though Teddy Dimas [Nathan Lane] and Theo [James Caverly] are in a boatload of trouble, we may see them again. There will also be some new characters and new suspects and new people around the world of Bunny, and new people around the world of the building that will factor into the case around Bunny.”
At the end of Season 1, as Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are led out of the Arconia apartment building, they’re watched by some onlookers who include Detective Williams (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), Ursula (Vanessa Aspillaga), Oscar (Aaron Dominguez), Lester (Teddy Coluca), Uma Heller (Jackie Hoffman), Arnav (Maulik Pancholy), and Dr. Grover Stanley (Russell G. Jones) — and we wouldn’t be surprised to see them again in Season 2.
What will Only Murders in the Building Season 2 be about?
As previously mentioned, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel ended Season 1 in the center of another murder case. In Season 2, we’re expecting to watch as they try to prove their innocence while also figuring out who actually killed Bunny.
John Hoffman recently gave Deadline a glimpse into what else Season 2 may hold, explaining: “Our trio is in the hot seat at the end of Season 1. They have to reckon with their relationship with Bunny in the days prior to what happens at the end of the season and there’s a lot that went down. […] There’s all that plus their connection to true crime and their respective histories which we will learn more about. There’s a lot there we start peeling back that’s built around what happened at the end of Season 1 and leading into 2. It gets more complicated and more fun in weird ways. It also puts pressure on them to solve the case.”
