Game, swim, match.

Tennis champ Naomi Osaka is one of three cover stars of the 2021 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, on sale July 22.

The four-time Grand Slam singles champion models a glossy black mesh-paneled Norma Kamali swimsuit ($155), along with a pair of giant seashell statement earrings from Beads by Cowrie.

Osaka, 23, is the first black athlete to cover the iconic magazine issue, but she’s not the only famous face gracing the glossy this year; Megan Thee Stallion also scored a coveted cover, making her only the second musical artist and the first female rapper to do so.

“We celebrate Naomi for her passion, strength and power geared towards consistently breaking barriers when it comes to equality, social justice and mental health,” Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s editor-in-chief, MJ Day, said in a statement.

Osaka made waves in May when she pulled out of the French Open after refusing to take part in interviews, citing struggles with anxiety and depression; she later skipped out on Wimbledon as well.

But Osaka’s still had a busy few months; ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she posed for Vogue Hong Kong and released a Netflix documentary. And earlier this year, she designed a line of swimwear for Frankies Bikinis.

“I think it’s really important for brands to design for all women, not just certain sizes or shapes or body types,” Osaka said in a press release at the time. “For me, it’s important to align myself with brands that make inclusivity a priority.”

And SI Swim is certainly prioritizing inclusivity; this year’s landmark issue includes its first transgender cover star, Leyna Bloom, as well as its first Asian curve model, Yumi Nu.
