Clare Crawley is having her breast implants removed after experiencing various health issues over the years.
The former “Bachelorette,” 40, shared her decision on Instagram with the hopes of helping other women who might be experiencing the same problems.
“I know how being your own health advocate is hard sometimes and can feel like an uphill battle,” she wrote on Saturday alongside a video explaining her recent absence from social media.
“This is the reality of life for so many people though! I’m just so incredibly thankful to all the people who are in my life that support me not only in my peaks but in the valleys as well.❤️.”
In the video, Crawley shared images of a rash and hives that have broken out all over her body and explained that she had tried various natural remedies and medications to treat them to no avail.
“My skin has been having really bad hives and rash. My whole body is just inflamed and itchy. I’ve had blood test after blood test. That is not my only symptom,” she said of her private health battle. “It’s so frustrating. It all came to a head about a month ago when I was at the chiropractor. I have implants, but behind one of them was a big packet of fluid.”
Crawley went for a mammogram, which helped doctors discover sacks of fluid behind her implants that have been causing her white blood cell count to increase.
“My body is fighting [my implants],” she explained, adding that her glands are still swollen. “My body can’t heal. My body is in fight mode constantly. It’s all making sense.”
The former “Bachelor Winter Games” star noted that although she has “loved” having her implants, “I love my health more. I love my well-being more.”
Crawley said her on-again boyfriend, Dale Moss, has been supportive of her decision to have the implants removed.
“I was talking to Dale the other day, and he said, ‘Your boobs are not what make you beautiful.’ And it’s the truth. For so long, I believed that’s what it would take,” she shared. “To me, this is the ultimate love story, is loving your body enough to know this is not what makes me beautiful. My health and happiness is what matters.”
After Crawley shared her health struggles on Saturday, the model praised her openness.
“So proud of you for sharing this love,” he wrote. “I know this wasn’t easy but will help so many other women going through what you’ve been experiencing. I love you & with you every step of the way❤️.”
