Badosa wins the title in Sydney two days before the start of the Australian Open

Just two days before debuting at the Australian Open, Paula Badosa will arrive in Melbourne with the Sydney title won this Saturday against the Czech Barbora Krejcikova (world number 3) for a tight 6-3, 4-6 and 7-6(4).

The Catalan tennis player, 24 years old and now sixth in the world after her victory, is the second Spaniard to win the tournament of Sidney, after Arantxa Sánchez Vicario got it in 1998.

Badosa had already beaten Krejcikova last year at the Masters 1,000 from Madrid and Indian Wells. On her way to the Sydney title, the Catalan tennis player had beaten the Russian Daria Kasatkina, the Swiss Belinda Bencic , the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko and the Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, with whom he will face this Monday in his debut at the Australian Open.
